Frequently Asked Questions About Allergy & Allergy Elimination

What are allergies?

Allergies are our bodies reactions on a chemical basis to things in our environment.  These things in our environment include pollens, dust, dust mites, dander, foods and colognes, just to name a few of the common/traditional allergens.  Some of the uncommon allergens include vitamins, sugars, emotions and even some climatic changes.

What kinds of allergic reactions can occur?

Most often when we think of allergies we think about nasal congestion, coughing, asthma, hives, itching and even swelling.  However, allergies can cause stomach problems (constipation, diarrhea, bloating...just about any gastrointestinal problem a person could imagine).  They can also cause a variety of symptoms that are pain related, like headaches, joint aches, muscle aches and even increasing our inflammatory load on our bodies.

How do you test for allergies?

There are a number of ways to test for allergies.  The most common way in the traditional medical model is by skin scratch testing.  This is an effective approach, but it only examines for allergies mediated by one type of immune cell (the "E" cell).  Blood testing is the allergy test most often used for food allergy testing.  It examines the "G" cell levels.  Another way to test for allergies is to test using muscle testing.  With this test a strong muscle will go weak just by holding an item to which you are allergic.  Lastly, you can eliminate all possible allergens and then gradually re-introduce them on an individual basis.

How do you treat for allergies?

There are two ways that we currently employ at our ABODE to treat allergies.  One is called the Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Technique, NAET for short, and the other is the re-introduction and elimination technique.  Personally, I like the NAET technique a bit more than the re-introduction and elimination technique.  The reason is that with NAET you don't have to worry about possible exposure causing you harm.  With NAET, once the allergen is properly identified and treated it is no longer a problem...unless something causes it to be an allergy again.

How can something cause you to be allergic?

Apparently, when you are exposed to something, lets say an apple, and something traumatic happens then there can be an association between that apple and the adverse event.  This association can result in your body expressing it as an allergy.  In basic psychological terms this is called operant conditioning:  Event A causes Reaction A; Event A & Event B occur together...Reaction A is still the result and eventually Event B alone causes Reaction A.

What exactly is NAET?

NAET is a combination of acupuncture and spinal manipulation with Aryuvedic influences.  Dr. Devi Nambudripad stumbled on to this approach over 20 years ago and she has trained over 8,000 practitioners on a worldwide basis.  She has authored over a dozen books on the treatment of allergy and pain.  The book that is generally recommended as an introduction to NAET is "Say Goodbye to Illnness" and it is available at bookstores and online bookstores.  Dr. Nambudripad feels very strongly that understanding the technique is one of the keys to its success and, therefore, it is highly recommended reading!
